Warnham is a village and a parish on the road from Horsham to Dorking, with station about 1 mile east, on the Horsham & Dorking branch of the L.B.&S.C. railway, 33 miles from London by road & 3 miles north from Horsham, in the north-western division of the county, Singlecross hundred, rape of Bramber, Horsham petty sessional division, union & county court district, rural deanery of Storrington (2nd division) and archdeaconry & diocese of Chichester. The village is somewhat extensive and consists principally of 2 long narrow streets; the parish extends to the Surrey border. The church of St Margaret is an ancient edifice of stone in the Early English style, and has a tower containing a clock with chimes and 8 bells; there are monuments with effigies to the Caryll family, and 8 stained windows; the church was enlarged and repaired in 1847-8, and the churchyard enlarged in 1875; in 1885-6 the church was rebuilt at a cost of £9,000; there are 400 sittings, one half being free. The register dates from the year 1558. The living is a vicarage, net yearly value £290 with 6 acres of glebe and residence in the gift of Charles James Lucas esq. J.P. and held since 1882 by the Rev. Richard Bowcott M.A. of Jesus College, Oxford, and rural dean of Storrington (Div. 2). The vicarage house was built in 1872. There is a mission room belonging to the Plymouth Brethen. The village hall and club erected in 1893 by Sir Henry Harben, at a cost of £3,500 has an endowment of £5,500, and a library of 500 volumes. Warnham Court, the seat of Charles James Lucas esq. V.D., D.L., J.P. is a mansion of stone, erected in 1828, and surrounded by a well-timbered deer park. On the south-west side of the parish is Field Place, the residence o Lieut.-Gen. Sir Edward Hutton K.C.M.G., C.B. and the birthplace (4th August 1792) of Percy Bysshe Shelley, the poet; here he spent much of his early life, and on Warnham pond, a wide sheet of water, he used to amuse his boyish days with a diminutive boat; this house is now the property of Capt. Sir John Courtown Edward Shelley bart. of Avington Park, Hants. Warnham Lodge, the residence of Sir Henry Harben D.L., J.P. stands in well wooded grounds of 50 acres. A water tower, 120 feet in height, with a reservoir holding 23,000 gallons, was erected by Sir Henry Harben in 1894. Westbrook is the residence of Mrs Baines. Mrs Wisden of Broadwater, is lady of the manors of Warnham & Den in Warnham. Evelyn Henry T. Broardwood esq. of Lyne, Mrs Farmer, Capt. Sir John Courtown E. Shelley bart. C.J. Lucas esq. D.L., J.P., G.N. Dicken esq. and Sir Henry Haben are the chief landowners. The soil is a heavy clay; subsoil, in some parts clay loam, in others stiff clay, including a good bed of clay which is used for making the best red bricks. The chief crops are wheat and oats. Area 4,932 acres of land & 28 of water; rateable value, £8,541; the population in 1901 was 1,075

Kingsfold, 2 miles north, and a portion of Broadbridge Heath, 1 mile south are in this parish. An iron mission room, with 120 sittings, was erected at Kingsfold in 1884, in which devine service is held every Sunday afternoon and Thursday evening.
